Inspiration: How to Decorate Your Table

One of the reasons why we wanted to have a movie-themed bake sale is that we really wanted to encourage our bakers to use their creativity. Other than being able to decorate unique baked goods, our bakers can decorate the table as they please! Here are some great examples from hostess with the mostess blog with some great ideas!

Featured Baker: Mia Patriarca

We are very excited to start featuring our bakers! One of our first volunteer bakers is Mia – who recently became a registered nurse. While she’s not on the road (she’s been to Nunavut!), she has a passion for hanging out with friends and baking, of course! Mia recently participated in the 24 Hour Relay for Easter Seals, and we are so happy to have her join us in raising funds again!

What will you see from Mia at the Big Screen Bake Sale: Cupcakes and other baked goods as well inspired by Beauty and the Beast.

Thank you for your support Mia! We’re so excited for your baked goods!

S’mores Pops, anyone?

As one of the hosts for the Big Screen Bake Sale, I knew that I had to put my baking skills and create something unique for the event. While searching for various inspirations, I discovered gimme some oven and thought that I would share this quick, easy, and yet very cute yummy treat with everyone! This would be great for a small get-together and really something to impress your friends 😉

Hope you’ll enjoy making these!

S’mores Pops Recipe
(Original recipe)

Ingredients:

  • 1 bag large marshmallows
  • 1 package semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 package cinnamon or honey graham crackers (about 9 long/large crackers) – or just buy graham cracker crumbs
  • lollipop sticks (available in cake decorating aisles)

Method (Resource: gimme some oven)

Begin by twisting the lollipop sticks until they are securely in the middle of the marshmallows.  (Insert them on the flat, not rounded, side of the marshmallows.  Then push them in until they almost pop through.)  Then place the graham crackers in a strong ziplock bag, and use a rolling pin (or whatever you’d like) to crush them until they are finely ground.  Then place them in a small bowl.

Then heat the chocolate chips in a double-boiler or (carefully!) in the microwave until they are melted and somewhat runny.

While holding the stick, carefully dip a marshmallow in the chocolate mixture until completely covered.  Then gently roll the sides and top of the marshmallow in the graham cracker crumbs until they are well-coated.  Place on a plate or on wax paper to let cool and dry.  Repeat with remaining marshmallows.

Big Screen Bake Sale is Underway!

Lawrence and I are uber excited for this event. We really wanted to create an original event – hence we came up with the idea of a movie-themed bake sale. Movie-themed means that all the baked goods will reflect a certain movie, which is decided upon the baker’s choice.

Part of the proceeds will be donated to Easter Seals. The funds will particularly go towards summer camps for children with disabilities.

We would like to keep you updated about the bake sale so please visit back here often! If you would like to become a volunteer baker, please contact us at bigscreenbakesale@gmail.com.

Please come to the event, buy some baked goods, and spread the word about our bake sale!
